Kathleen Horner Digital Photography
Being a visual artist for decades, I always had an eye for taking photographs. My love affair with the camera began in the mid 90's when I purchased a Nikon film camera and really for the first time discovered the magic and allure of photography and then to my delight several years later discovered digital photography. I am always learning something new about seeing life through the camera lens and continue to be amazed by the technology of the digital camera and how it captures light, shadows and colors creating a fascinating dance between the eye and the camera lens!
Over the years I have developed a multi-faceted photography style ranging from simple natural light work to artistically mastered digital art covering a wide variety of subject matter in traditional, interpreted abstract and fantasy photography styles. Presently, I have been focusing on portrait photography as I find the human face transformative under conditions of light and shadow and am drawn to the creative challenges it presents as a photographer to set the perfect mood or expression.
FLOWER SCULPTURES
I began as a watercolor artist in 1980 and continued through the years experimenting with various art forms until my love of flowers and my concern for the environment gave existence to Flower Sculptures in 1991. Flower Sculptures are a beautiful collection of some 30 species of wildflowers and garden flower pins, earrings and hair accessories hand-sculpted from 140 lb. watercolor paper and then carefully hand-painted using acrylic paint. My goal for each piece is to capture a realistic rendering of the actual flower with the end result being just that. I believe that in spite of serious environmental injury, the earth still “laughs in flowers”, and that flowers are here to remind us of the immense diversity and sustainability of earth. With Flower Sculptures being sold nationally, it is my hope that each piece can be a little part of spreading that powerful message.
